The Unseen Leaders: A Memorial Day Reflection

This Memorial Day, I’m reflecting on a once in a lifetime encounter that happened last Saturday. I was on Rodeo Drive, walking along with my GoPro, when I saw a man with a little bulldog in the lawn. As I gave way for him to pass, he waved and said “hi.” It was the only moment I instinctively switched off my GoPro—some better moments are just meant to be captured in memory, not on camera.

It wasn’t until after he passed by, when people rushed over to take pictures with him, that I realized it was Adam Sandler:):)

That brief, simple moment—when he, just like anyone else, greeted a stranger—taught me something about leadership and presence. It reminded me of the quiet heroes we honor on Memorial Day. They aren’t always famous or in the spotlight. They lead with humility, authenticity, and kindness!

In leadership, and in life, the most impactful gestures often happen quietly—whether it’s a wave and a greeting or a willingness to serve others without recognition. This Memorial Day, let’s take a moment to remember and honor the quiet leaders and heroes around us—those who leave a lasting legacy through their presence and integrity, not just their fame.
